Stargazing Goes Hawaii

Stargazing Goes Hawaii and what better place to check out the geatest view in the world, and don’t forget the Milky-Way. Being located out in the Pacific Ocean opens up many opportunities for not only watching stars, but for also looking for comets running across the skies. This is a great activity for tourist to see, but even if you live here you should check out this event.

Stargazing Goes HawaiiOur resident celebrity hotel hopper, Josh Flagg, star of Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing has sent us Hawaii dispatches. Here’s his take on the stargazing offered at the Hyatt Regency in Maui.

Over the summer vacation, I took a three week trip to Hawaii and yes, in case you are wondering, I do still work.I just happen to do all my traveling at one time, and the rest of the year I am in the office.

And on this trip, I did something very cool which I had done once when I was a little kid, and was surprised to find out I could still do. I went stargazing, the real kind, not the Hollywood kind.

So this time around, I phoned up the Hyatt Regency and asked them if they still offered this service and to my surprise they do. They said that it has been a program they have offered for 25 years, started by original owner of the hotel who was an amateur astronomer.

The Hyatt now has three incredible telescopes for guests to use. They seriously look like weapons, they are that big! I was extremely impressed when the astronomer showed me Saturn, and it really looks as it does in the pictures, like a giant ball with a ring around it.

If you like looking at stars (and who doesn’t in Hawaii) you must go to the roof of the Hyatt Regency and take one of their Tour of the Stars!

Rates for the stargazing programs, held at 8pm, 9pm and 10pm nightly, start at $25. But the viewings are also open to non-guests for $30. Read more here about the Hyatt Regency Maui’s Director of Astronomy!
