Hawaiian said that with three flights per week beginning March 13, it would be the only U.S. carrier flying into Auckland.

The airline said New Zealand is an untapped market for tourists coming to Hawaii. It said that the number of visitors to Hawaii from New Zealand has dropped 30 percent since 1999, when there were more nonstop flights from Auckland.

Hawaiian said it would fly two-aisle Boeing 767 jets on the route and offer more than 40,000 seats per year. It said it would announce the start of sales and the flight schedule later.

Hawaiian has been adding international destinations including Tokyo, Seoul and Brisbane to complement its service between the islands and the U.S. mainland.

I hope the airlines keep up the hard work Flying from New Zealand to Hawaii in 2013 will help Hawaii’s economy to grow so more jobs can be created and get our folks back to work…
