Dennis Miller hits the Airwaves on Hawaii Five-0

Dennis Miller hits the Airwaves on Hawaii Five-0 and this show keeps getting better and better. I like a show that brings other actors for guest spots or even if they’re on a few episodes where the story line continues, keeping you on the edge of your seat, while waiting until next week’s show to air.

Dennis Miller hits the Airwaves on Hawaii Five-0

During his Feb. 8 “Miller Time” appearance on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor,” former “Saturday Night Live” star and standup comedian Dennis Miller, now host of his own nationally syndicated radio talk show, got some grief from host Bill O’Reilly because Miller was jetting off to the Aloha State to film an episode of CBS’ “Hawaii Five-0″ without him.

Along with Miller’s regular appearances on the “Factor,” he and O’Reilly have been partners for the “Bolder & Fresher Tour,” a traveling stage show– most recently in Santa Barbara, Calif. on Saturday, Feb. 25 — that is a follow up to the “Bold & Fresh Tour” that O’Reilly did with former Fox News personality Glenn Beck.

The day after speaking to O’Reilly, Miller was set to fly to Hawaii to shoot his role in the Monday, Feb. 27, episode, called “Lekio” (Hawaiian for “radio”), playing radio talk-show host Bobby Raines, who suffers an explosive mishap while broadcasting from a luxury yacht.

But you wouldn’t know that if you heard what Miller told O’Reilly when the “Factor” host complained about being left out.

“You told me once,” said Miller, “you would never show up in a grass skirt, and that’s my part. I’m an island transvestite, so I didn’t think you’d want to come.”

“I was only there about 36 hours,” Miller tells Zap2it when asked about what he said to O’Reilly. “Bill seemed jealous. I didn’t want to make out that I was going over there to do a Michener novel. It was just in and out.

“I play a DJ, so maybe somebody there liked me, because I didn’t solicit it. They had a part for a talk-radio show host, and maybe the one guy said he listened to my show and that’s that.”

Although Raines is doing his show from a boat, it’s not exactly pirate radio.

“My thing is on a yacht,” says Miller, “but it didn’t seem that I was playing old Yardbird tunes. It wasn’t that kind of pirate radio It was more Limbaugh-ian.”

CBS’ current incarnation of “Hawaii Five-0″ stars Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caanin the iconic roles of crime-fighting partners Steve McGarrett and Danny “Danno”  Williams.

Monday’s episode features a guest appearance by Caan’s father, James Caan, playing Tony Archer, a retired NYPD bomb expert who is now a private investigator on Oahu.

“Jimmy’s in the episode, too,” says Miller. “I said, ‘Jimmy, you got an arc on here, or is this a new gig?’ ‘This is for my kid; this is not for my career.’

“Jimmy’s a great guy. He always makes me laugh, and I’m always reminded of his greatness in ‘The Gambler,’ ‘Rollerball,’ ‘Godfather’ … God, the guy could act.”

While Miller doesn’t know whether Tony Archer will return to “Hawaii Five-0,” he doesn’t have high hopes for Bobby Raines.

“I don’t think my character can come back from the part I have,” he says, “let’s put it that way. I did my best for the cause.”

On the other hand, radio’s “The Dennis Miller Show” — a blend of interviews and commentary on pop culture and politics, mixed in with Miller’s signature humor and rants — is being very good to him.

“Five years,” Miller says, “I enjoy it. “We just went up to 304 stations, so I feel like I”m building something. It’s the same sh** I used to tell a shrink for $200, now I get paid.

“I find it very cathartic. I do it in the morning. I talk for three hours, and at the end of the shift, I feel sated, and it’s still early enough to take a nice walk, read a book. It works for me.”

I’m looking forward to seeing Dennis Miller hits the Airwaves on Hawaii Five-0 on tonight’s episode. I hope the show stays the course and keeps recruiting other stars to appear. This episode aires tonight… Be There!
